Managing a hydraulic system in district heating

Objective

This project outlines the European approach to water treatment and corrosion prevention in hot water district heating systems and describes commonly used North American treatment methods. The objective is to make information and operating experiences from a European perspective available to North American system operators.

Results

The results from the project are available in a report that is based on the system being used at Nordvärme in Finland.The fiollowing issues are discussed:

  • Corrosion and water treatment in Nordic District heating systems; Experience and Practice
  • Evaluation of closed water corrosion inhibitors and in-service removal of chromate deposits in closed water systems
  • Corrosion protection strategies for hot water district heating systesm: Two case studies
