District energy is a key technology to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. To increase the contribution that district heating and cooling can make to fulfil the Paris Agreement, IEA DHC research projects provide valuable insights of how the sector can contribute best.

In 2022 IEA DHC went one step further. It committed to minimizing its contribution to climate change from operations. Consequently, from 2022 all greenhouse gas emissions that are caused by the programmes operation, such as from international flights to IEA DHC Executive Committee meetings, are offset using the gold standard offsetting company atmosfair.

Now, IEA DHC is the first IEA technology collaboration programme employing a climate conscious approach to operations, proving once more that action should follow insight.
