Project summary
This study presents the savings from district heating in comparison to hypothetical natural gas condensing boilers.
Savings of greenhouse gas and resource exergy - a next-level primary energy metric - are presented for Europe and China in 2022.
It provides robust, country-level evidence for policymakers, energy professionals, and scientists.
The report uses life cycle data as well as greenhouse gas and resource exergy analysis to quantify climate and efficiency benefits versus individual natural gas boilers.
Key results show district heating delivered greenhouse gas emission savings of 69 Mt and resource exergy savings of 653 TWh in the eleven considered countries in 2022.
The report provides high-level and detailed results on aggregate and country level and helps to inform on the causes of the achieved savings as well as future development potential.
